Last Blog! - Week of June 6-10

    

It's hard to believe this is our last classroom blog post for the school year! Thank you SO much for sharing your students with me this year; I hope you have an amazing summer! I've included some awesome summer learning opportunities below including a full 12 week Virtual Summer Adventure Camp with access to choice boards and 120 e-books.

Lastly, I'll be sharing a letter with the class on Wednesday that I wrote to them. Please don't tell them about it but you can access it here. 

Virtual Summer Adventure Camp:

This site provides bi-weekly choice boards (12 weeks worth!) and access to 120 FREE e-books. Each choice board provides a variety of fun activities both virtual activities and activities you can print/do outdoors!

Field Trip - Kalamazoo Valley Museum

On Tuesday June 7, we will travel to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum to visit the Rube Goldberg exhibit and planetarium. Students will need to bring a mask (the KVM is requiring all visitors to wear a mask while in the museum) and a sack lunch to school.

 

*If your child is planning to receive a sack lunch from the school instead of bringing his/her own from home, please fill out the form located here no later than Monday 6/6 at 4pm.

 

Rube Goldberg, a Pulitzer Prize cartoonist and inventor, is best remembered for his zany contraptions, known as Rube Goldberg Machines. These inventions perform a simple task in the most overcomplicated, inefficient and hilarious way possible. This exhibit brings Rube's cartoons and zany contraptions to life through 3D, life-size machines and hands-on, interactive components. It invites visitors to investigate classic engineering principles in a humorous way.

Field Trip - Sarett Dune Study

On Wednesday June 8, we will travel to Grand Mere State Park for a dune study field trip. Students will need to dress appropriately for the weather and must wear shoes that will not come off easily. They may wear tennis shoes or sandals with straps - no slip on sandals or flip flops may be worn). Students also need to make sure they bring a water bottle!

Summer Activities

If you requested a packet to prevent summer slide for 4th grade, those will be going home this week.

Summer Learning Challenge 2022

We are challenging all of our current Y5 - 4th grade students to "go for gold" this summer! By dedicating a small portion of their free time to fun learning activities, students will work to overcome the effects of "summer slide". 

Here's how it will work: students will track their progress all summer long on this sheet (a hard copy will be sent home with summer book packs on Wednesday as well). They will turn it in once we return to school in the fall. Based on the number of activities completed throughout the summer, students will earn a gold, silver, or bronze medal. Let's inspire all of our Brown School students to "go for the gold"!

Water Bottles and Snacks

This is a friendly reminder that students should come to school with a full water bottle each day; while students can fill their water bottles at the bottle fillers, the water fountain remains off.

Students are also encouraged to bring 2 healthy snacks each day, one for morning recess and one for afternoon recess. I am running low on classroom provided snacks and will likely not have any left for the last week and a half of school.

 Homework Reminder

Homework each night consists of reading 20+ minutes at home (this can be a library book, magazine, newspaper, online book, etc) and practicing multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year. Students can also work on Lexia Core 5 and on IXL (NWEA Skills).
