Kindness Squad

Hello Families of Mrs. Hassenger’s class,

In P2, we have been learning about giving and we wanted to do a project where we deliver treats to

classes and teachers around the school. We need your help! In order to give to others, we are in need of

some candy and snacks. We would like to do something different every week or two so Mrs. Hassenger

will update the list of what we need in the blog each week.

Here is a list of what we will need this week so we can deliver treats to each classroom:

-Starbursts

-Skittles (fun sized bags)

-M&M (fun sized bags)

-Kit Kats

-Jolly Ranchers

Thank You,

Mrs. Hassenger's 4th Graders

Valentine's Day Celebration

We will have our Valentine's Day Celebration on Monday February 14 from 12:30-1:45.  If you would like to sign up to volunteer to plan and run a rotation during the party, please CLICK HERE. You MUST have a background check on file for this year in order to volunteer at the party.

Dressing for the Weather

As winter continues, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.  All students are expected to be outside at all 3 recesses and often times during P.E. Students will not be allowed to play beyond the blacktop without boots and snow pants. If your child is in need of a winter coat or any other winter apparel, please let me know.

Please talk to your students about their responsibility in wearing what you send/expect them to wear during recesses. Brown School is focused on teaching personal responsibility/natural consequences for student choices. For instance, if their pants get wet going down the slide when they chose not to wear their snow pants, they will be sitting in wet pants for the day. We will not call home for dry clothing.

Homework Reminder

Homework each week consists of reading 20+ minutes at home (this can be a library book, magazine, newspaper, online book, etc) and practicing multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year.

Mrs. Bawks' Brown School Family Blog:

Please don't forget to take a peek at Mrs. Bawks' Brown School Family Blog each week. CLICK HERE to read it.

What we are learning this week:

Math:  We will move onto our next section in math focusing on comparisons between multi-digit numbers with multiples. You can view some materials to help you support our child's learning by CLICKING HERE.

ELA: We are continuing our focus on cause and effect by applying this text structure within readings.

Writing:  This week we will begin our study of persuasive writing. Your student will be introduced to the writing process and we will discuss its different features.

Science:  This week in science we are learning about how roller coasters move so fast, all without a motor (the motor is in the track of the first hill). We will learn about how hills can store energy. The higher the hill, the more energy, the faster the coaster can go! We will solve the mystery, “How do roller coasters move so fast?” You can support this week’s learning by watching a video with your child of the coaster we will study in class, the Goliath (http://video.link/w/BUj). It’s the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world! You might also want to share your experiences riding roller coasters or other amusement park rides.

P2: We will study a topic in the Other People Matter Mindset: Identifying and appreciating the good in others, "You work hard to identify and value others' strengths."
