Week of November 29

Report Cards

Report cards were sent home Tuesday at the end of the day. Please sign the back of the report card envelope and return the empty and signed envelope to school on Monday November 29. If your student was absent on Tuesday November 23, they will bring their report card home on Monday.

Dressing for the Weather

As winter approaches, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.  All students are expected to be outside at all 3 recesses and often times during P.E. Once the snow begins, students will not be allowed to play beyond the blacktop without boots and snow pants. If your child is in need of a winter coat or any other winter apparel, please let me know.

Please talk to your students about their responsibility in wearing what you send/expect them to wear during recesses. Brown School is focused on teaching personal responsibility/natural consequences for student choices. For instance, if their pants get wet going down the slide when they chose not to wear their snow pants, they will be sitting in wet pants for the day. We will not call home for dry clothing.

Holiday Shoppe

The Holiday Shoppe will once again be available to students at Brown! Please watch for more information coming in Mrs. Bawks’ blog (linked below); our class will be shopping on Wednesday December 1.

Classroom Amazon Wishlist

I have updated our classroom wishlist on Amazon with some snacks; thank you so much for donating to our classroom! You can click HERE to access our classroom Amazon Wishlist.

Computer Charging

Many students have been coming to school with a computer that is not charged.  Please help to remind your student that Chromebooks must be charged at home before coming to school.

Homework Reminder

Homework each week consists of reading 20+ minutes at home (this can be a library book, magazine, newspaper, online book, etc) and practicing multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year.

What we are learning this week:

Math:  We will continue practicing multiplying a fraction by a whole number; we will also begin to learn how to add and subtract fractions.

ELA: We will focus on summarizing the big ideas in a passage to express what it is all about.

Writing:  We will begin our study of prefixes and suffixes.

Science:  We will learn about volcanoes and where they exist in the world. Below I’ve included a link to some amazing pictures of active volcanoes. Show these to your child; it’s guaranteed to be a conversation starter about what they learned! http://www.theatlantic.com/photo/2014/12/2014-the-year-in-volcanic-activity/100873/

Social Studies:  We will continue our unit on geography of the United States.

P2: We will study kindness. Kindness is defined as, “you are generous to others and you are never too busy to help out. You enjoy doing good deeds for other people.”
